"The Hospital Ships" - Past, Present and Future
Historical documents provide evidence that ever since antiquity armies have attached considerable importance to adequate medical support, not only for the fighting troops but also for the crews of the naval units. The following dual concept was also emphasised: the need to rescue those wounded in battle, and the importance of psychological support for the soldier, who would have faced the most difficult trials with great determination in the knowledge that, if he is wounded, he can count on invaluable medical assistance.
